Due to the measures against the coronavirus, the annual commerations of this special day could not take place in Neuengamme. Representatives of the city of Hamburg, the Neuengamme Memorial and the Amicale Internationale KZ laid down flowers in silence. Individual visitors also came to Neuengamme to remember.
This special situation was sad, but in the same time, we were connected in many ways: Pictures, films, testimonies of former prisoners and their descendants can be seen on our Facebook site and in this special website of the Neuengamme Memorial created for the virtuel commemorations of May 3. Also in Neustadt in Holstein, a special website has been created about the bombing of the Cap Arcona and Thielbek and the death of more than 6600 Neuengamme inmates on May 3 1945.
We are all looking forward to come together next year on May 3 2021: survivors, families and friends!
